back to the top PADI Rescue Diver
The PADI Rescue Diver course philosophy focuses on the concept that there is rarely only one
way to accomplish a task. There is no single “right” way to perform a rescue, but rather there
are many variables and resources that rescuers consider and draw upon, depending upon the
scenario. The course takes a flexible, conceptual approach to rescue — a rescuer’s relative size
and strength, for example, as well as environmental factors, may dictate or influence what rescue
technique will be most effective.
The course water training sessions develop students’ foundational skills, which they adapt
to their personal differences and needs. Skill development encourages divers to experiment,
learning to capitalize on their strengths, recognise their limitations and consider these in
emergency situations. Student divers learn to first think about the options available for handling
an emergency, and then act using their appraisal of the best method for the situation.
Course Goals:
- Increase awareness of diver safety.
- Develop divers’ abilities to anticipate and prevent problems as well as to manage
them.
- Teach effective rescue techniques and first aid skills specific to diving.
- Prepare divers to manage diver emergency situations.
- Expand diver knowledge in preparation for PADI leadership-level training.
Prerequisites:
- Be 12 years or older
- Have a PADI Adventure Diver certification (or have a qualifying certification from
another organisation)
- Be trained and current for First Aid and CPR within the previous two years (Ask
your instructor about Emergency First Response CPR and first aid courses).
Schedule:
The course is usually run over three days or more. There are three sections to
the course, namely,
- the theory,
- pool sessions and
- finally open water scenarios.
Course Cost:
- Rescue Diver Course R 3250
- EFR (First Aid) Course R1150 = R4400

PADI Dry Suit Diver
Why dive dry? – simply to stay warm. No one said diving had to be cold or wet.
Diving dry is the difference between withstanding the 40°F (4°C) temperature of some waters to enjoy watching a three-inch scallop's
beadlike eyes spangle the edges of a brightly coloured mantle. [...] More often than not, in colder waters, dry suit diving can be the difference between experiencing multiple dives in one day or making one
chilly wet suit dive and listening to others tell you about what you've missed on the dives you were just too
cold to make...
